Pastor Ernie Smith grew up in Cheshire — his parents were founding members of Grace Baptist Church in 1973. He is a member of the Cheshire High School class of '74.Ernie Smith 牧師在徹夏爾鎮長大——他的父母是1973年恩典浸信會的創會會友之一。他畢業於徹夏爾高中1974年班。
He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Pastoral Ministries from what is now Columbia International University. As part of his college Christian service, Ernie taught a children's neighborhood Bible club and led a student ministry team at a residential teen high school in Columbia, SC.他在現今的哥倫比亞國際大學（Columbia International University）取得牧範事工的學士與碩士學位。大學期間，作為基督徒服事的一部分，Ernie 曾教導社區兒童聖經俱樂部，並在南卡羅來納州哥倫比亞市一所住宿制青少年高中帶領學生事工團隊。
He was ordained by Grace Baptist Church in 1986 and served in pastoral ministry in East Haven, North Haven, Stonington, and Littleton, NH — in each location, his service included ministry to children and youth.他於1986年由恩典浸信會按立為牧師，並先後在東海文、北海文、斯托寧頓（康乃狄克州）以及新罕布夏州利特爾頓等地牧會——每個地方的事奉都包含兒童與青少年事工。
Ernie's former wife, Toni, passed away in 2009. In 2020 he met Ginny, whose husband Bob had passed away in 2018; they married in 2021. Together they have five married children and eleven grandchildren.
